2. The scientific content of the PhD project • This section falls into 7 sub-sections • The background for the project problem • How does the your project fit into a broader contextual frame? • Max 300 words
2. The scientific content of the PhD project • An introduction stating the state-of-the-art for the PhD project (WHAT is known…) • What is the global state of knowledge on your PhD topic? NOT your knowledge – but the worlds knowledge • Seen in the light of the state-of-art: How does your PhD project contribute to increasing the global state of knowledge? • Include key references listed under section 9
2. The scientific content of the PhD project • The project objectives (WHAT will I solve …) • Short and concise state what is the scientific objective (goal) of your work • This could be formulated as a hypothesis: • For example: It is the working hypothesis of this project that hydrogen sulfide oxidation on corroding concrete is mainly a biological process • It could also be formulated as a problem to solve • For example: Investigate to what degree hydrogen sulfide oxidation on corroding concrete is a biological process or a chemical process
2. The scientific content of the PhD project • Key methods (HOW do I do it …) • Methodological needs • Identification of means of meeting these needs • Methodological design • The coverage should include techniques for evaluating or assessing the outcomes of the project (e.g., empirical studies, theoretical studies)
2. The scientific content of the PhD project • Potential significance and application(s) of the project’s expected outcome, possibly including methodological contributions (WHAT comes out of it …) • What are the expected results of my study?
2. The scientific content of the PhD project • Time schedule (HOW do I organize …) • At this stage, the time schedule must be with a resolution of 6 months or finer • Include milestones of your projects.
