Orcs in fantasy(reproduction) • Some say Orcscome from egg-like sacs in the mud. • When they reach full term they crawl out of the mud almost like maggots. • In other theories, it is said the reproduce sexually.
Orcs in fantasy • Characteristics: vicious, cruel, disorganized, destructive, cannibalistic.
Orcs in fantasy • Features: Skin- black, gray or a dark greenish color. • Usually have fangs or tusks of some sort. • Rarely shorter than 4’5” or taller than 6” • Orcs vary widely in appearance because of their penchant to cross w/other races.

Orcs in Lotr(tolkiens work) In Tolkien’s work Orcs are said to be the result of the corruption of elves. They prefer dark places, such as Moria. Orcs are portrayed often as soldiers & henchman by the villains in the lord of the lord of the rings. In the book Tolkien suggested that men were crossbred with Orcs under Morgolieutenant Sauron.

History of orcs • According to Tolkien, Orcs descended from elves. How they got they way they are now in the book is that they were tortured & that torture corrupted them & turned them into what they are now known as Orcs.
History of orcs • Other theories say that Orcs may have begun as animals that were in some sort of human form. They were than empowered by the will of the Dark Lord (first Morgoth later Sauron). This theory would explain the references to their beaks and feathers in Tolkien’s writing.
