AC Power Dustin Sims
What is AC power? • AC stands for Alternating Current • The AC cycle repeats itself endlessly, and as a result the current through the circuit reverses direction repeatedly.
AC diagram’s The voltage of AC power over time
How AC works • AC comes from a power plant while DC comes from a source such as a battery. • Power companies convert alternating current to very high voltages for transmission, then drop it back down to lower voltages for distribution, and finally down to 120 volts inside the house for safety.
Why use AC instead of DC? • AC power is cheaper to use than DC power. • Electrons are not lost as they are in DC. • It is easy to change the voltage of the power in AC using a transformer.
