  2. Facts • Roman coliseum was originally named the Flavian Amphitheater. • Sucessfully compleated in the year 80 A.D • Emperor Titus opened it to the public. The opening ceremony lasted over 100 days.

Facts • Built near the statue of colosus. • It remained in use nearly 500 years. • The last recorded games were held in it in the 6th centuary. • The roman coliseum can hold up to 50,000 people • The roman coliseum is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Rome and still holds close connections with the Catholic church.

  4. Even more facts • Popular events of the coliseum included:Chariot races and Gladiator fights. • There were no less than 76 entrances not including the four VIP entrances for the emperor. • The higher one’s social status, the better their seat.

A little more facts • Construction of the coliseum began under the rule of Emperor Vespasian. • By the late 6th century a small church was built inside the ampitheatre. • In 1671 Cardinal Altieri allowed the use of bull fights in the coliseum. • The most popular games in the coliseum were hunts.

  6. Pope Sixtus V planned to turn the building into a wool factory. • Unlike earlier greek theater that were built into theaters, the coliseum is an entirely free-standing structure.

  7. Day At The Coliseum • First, you’d walk in to one of the 176 entrances. You would head over to the emperor and greet him formally as you would the president of the us or the queen of England then you would go to your seats depending on your social status the more important you are the lower or closer seats you have but the higher seats are reserved for the public.

  8. Plan a trip to the coliseum • We plan a trip from the Tampa airport and take a 12 hour flight to Rome, Italy and take a bus to the coliseum and pay 75.00$ a piece to take the tour for the day.
