Design • Finishing trades identified as major source of waste by HBG • Internal finishes reviewed generally with respect to waste • Staircase wall finishes changed from dry-lining to fair-faced concrete • Exposed recessed joints set out to allow adoption of standard formwork
Design • Insulation of roof upstands • Concrete profiles amended to accommodate standard boards • Design note added to specification to communicate to contractor how boards are to be cut to minimise wastage • 711 Insulation to upstands: • Manufacture and reference: Dow Construction Products, Roofmate LG-X or equal approved • Material: extruded polystyrene, CFC and HCFC free • Thickness: 100mm plus 10mm cementitious face • Do not lay insulation until roof is clear of other subtrades. • Clean off all dirt and debris from base • The roof build-up has been designed so that perimeter upstand insulation is always 400mm high, allowing standard boards to be cut into equal thirds to eliminate wastage. Set out to minimise cutting and avoid small cut pieces at perimeter and penetrations. • Insulation boards to be adhered to asphalt-finished up stands as recommended by installer • On completion of laying ensure that boards are in good condition, with no springing, flexing or rocking. Secure boards against wind uplift as soon as practicable
Design • Desired profiles drawn • Relationship of insulation to window investigated • Relationship optimised to use standard insulation boards and minimum aluminium profiles through coordination with relevant contractors
