  1. 16.7 Million ColorLEDLight Fixture Jeffrey Knorr Christopher Yope

  2. Project Definition Using very high output light emitting diodes (LED) and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology DMX512 control protocol, a 16.7 million color LED light fixture will be created and interfaced with a NSI MC6300 lighting controller.

  6. DMX512 Protocol DMX-512 Data Frame Format DMX-512 Data Frame Format (two stop bits)

  7. Task Responsibility

  8. Sensor Selection • Microchip TC1047A • Vin between 2.5V and 5.5V • 10mV per °C Voltage Slope Output • ±0.5 °C Accuracy • Low Running Current – Minimizes Self-Heating and More Accurate Result • Small Size for Better Placement

  9. Sensor Use • Total of 4 Sensors • One for each color –Red, Green, Blue • One for Ambient Temperature • Needed to ensure that the LED’s do not overheat

  10. LED Selection • LumiLEDs Luxeon Star and Star V LEDs • State of the art LEDs • LEDs require heatsinking to prevent overheating and to help maintain a low pn junction temperature

  11. Microcontroller Selection • PICs are widely used in industry due to their low cost and relatively simple instruction set • 18F458 features: Programmable Serial Interface, 4 PWM outputs, 10bit ADC, large internal memory (32kb Flash, 1.5kb RAM) • Dual Inline Package • Low Cost • Simple System Integration

  12. Work Completed • Microcontroller Acquired • LED’s Acquired • Temperature Sensor Acquired • LED Testing • Initial Dimming Circuit Design • Power Supplies Acquired • Initial Webpage Design

  13. Worked to be Completed • Sensor Testing • PIC Programming • Finalize Dimming Circuit • Website • Construction • Project Testing • Report • Demonstration

  14. Test Plan • Test each subsystem individually • Gradually combine subsystems and perform intermediate system tests • Initial full system tests • System Burn In (& temperature testing) • Final thorough system testing
