Saturday, October 20, 2007 PSAT Test • Casa Roble High School • Report to School 7:15 am • Test over around 11:00 am • ALL FROSH, SOPH, JUNIORS MUST TAKE TEST! • $18.00 Test Fee • Pay at financial window in Round House • Cash or checks payable to CRHS • Some financial assistance will be available for students in need. Have them see their teacher.
The Reach of AVID • International program- in 45 states, 15 countries • Began in San Diego 27 years ago • San Juan School District was the first in the nation to implement AVID district-wide grades 7-12 in 2001 • Casa Roble AVID is well-known in the state • AVID Coordinators and teachers asked to present at staff development trainings throughout region and state
Recent Statistics for Casa AVID • Nationally Certified AVID Program since 2001-2002 School Year • 2 years ago, Casa student received Dell Scholarship • Last year, 23 out of 25 AVID students were accepted to a 4-year university (92%)- 2 to Community College- (100%) college-bound • 78 students out of 322 Casa students were accepted to a 4-year university (24%) • Last year, one of our AVID seniors was accepted to UC Berkeley, but decided on UCSD because she was offered a full-ride scholarship
2006-2007 WASC Report • “In addition, an AVID program targets students who have the potential to succeed in college but are generally considered to require extra support and motivation to attend college. All AVID students participate in routine evaluation and refinement of their Personal Learning Plan. Conversations overheard among students suggest AVID students are asked by non-AVID students to share information regarding college application requirements and deadlines.”
WASC Report, Continued • “ Seek ways to increase the frequency that students interact with their four-year planner and supplement those interactions with meetings and discussions with parents, counselors, and teachers. Strategies used within the AVID program may be useful.” • “Seek ways to increase the use of AVID strategies school-wide.”

Constant Staff Development • Since school started, AVID Site team members have participated in 4 conferences • Sacramento County Office of Education AVID Workshop • UC Counseling Conference • CSU Counseling Conference • College Board Counseling Conference • AVID Summer Institute (July)
Goals 2007-2008 • Casa Roble Staff-wide buy in • Site team trained entire staff on Cornell Note taking method, Socratic Seminar method, and Costa’s Levels of Inquiry method • Since 2005 • Great strides made between AVID and other programs on campus including honors programs, AP programs, and athletics

Goals 2007-2008 • 100% Frosh, Soph, and Jr. participation in PSAT testing • 100% of students on track to meet A-G Requirements • 100% of AP students take the AP test • 100% of juniors take at least one college entrance test (SAT or ACT) • 100% senior acceptance into 4-year universities

Eligibility for any Field Trip • Nothing lower than a C+ in any course • Nothing lower than a B in citizenship in any course • Nothing lower than a B in AVID • Not currently on AVID Intervention/Probation • AVID Site Team reserves the right to review each issue on a case-by-case basis
Fundraising! • Money goes to eliminating financial strain on families • Given small budget from District • All schools in SJUSD supplement with fundraising • Test fees • Application fees • College Field Trips • Curriculum • Conference fees and training
Stuff We’ve Done • Entertainment Books • If you have them still at home and can’t sell them- send them in with your kid tomorrow… better yet, have your kid sell them and bring in $$ tomorrow! • Butter Braids/Cookie Dough • Food Fests • Car Washes • Soliciting Donations from Companies • Spring Carnival
