  2. Inequalities • Definition: The relationship between two expressions that are not equal. • Instead of an equal sign (=), they are compared using: • > Greater than • < Less than • ≥ Greater than or equal to • ≤ Less than or equal to

  3. Confusion??????? • I always think of the open side is the greater side. 25 > 9 So, 25 is greater than 9!

  4. Some examples… • “x is greater than 7” • “n is less than 5” • “b is greater than or equal to 4 • “y is less than or equal to -5” • x > 7 • n < 5 • b > 4 • y < -5

  5. You try it… x < -5 “x is less than -5” What numbers are less than -5? (Ex. -6, -10, -25, etc. ) b > 7 “b is greater than or equal to 7” (Ex. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, etc.)

  6. Graphing Inequalities Graph any number greater than (>) . . . open circle, line to the right Graph any number less than (<) . . . open circle, line to the left Graph any number greater than or equal to (>). . . closed circle, line to the right Graph any number less than or equal to (<). . . closed circle, line to the left

  7. Graphing Inequalities x > -3 “x is greater than -3” Open or Closed Circle? Right or Left Line? .

  8. Graphing Inequalities x < 5 “x is less than or equal to 5” Open or Closed Circle? Right or Left Line?

  9. Graphing Inequalities x > -6 “x is greater than or equal to -6” Open or Closed Circle? Right or Left Line?

  10. Graphing Inequalities x < 0 “x is less than 0” Open or Closed Circle? Right or Left Line? .
