International Business (KS) • Issues: Theories on internationalization, globalization, politics and law in business, international trade and economic systems, business-government relations, regional economic integration, etc. • Case studies • Short tests during the semester • Final written examination
Global Management and Strategy (IK) • Issues: external and internal environment of MNEs, internationalization, strategic management on the headquarter and subsidiary level, cooperative strategies, corporate social responsibility, etc. • Case studies • Short tests during the semester • Final written examination
Organization and Management of MNEs (IK) • Issues: Coordination and control, knowledge transfer, post merger integration, dynamic capabilities, global strategic alliances, transaction costs, organizational change • Case studies / empirical studies • Short tests during the semester • Final written examination
Cross Cultural Management (SE) • Issues: Key concepts in cross-cultural management, cross-cultural communication, cultural clusters, organizing and organizational culture, multicultural teams, negotiation, expatriation, etc. • Culture simulation • Reflective essays and short tests during the semester • Seminar paper or virtual team project
Special Topics in International Management (IK) • Changes from one semester to the next • Often held by guest professors from partner universities • Focus on recent issues
„Schwerpunktfach“ - Principles • We expect students to attend all course sessions. • All courses are taught in English. • Examination (2 ECTS): • Written examination ("1 Partiale"), 120 minutes • The examination covers the topics of all courses except of „Special Topics“ • The examination grade includes the arithmetic mean of the four individual course grades (50%)
Studying International Management – „Spezialisierungsfach“
„Spezialisierungsfach“ - Principles • We expect students to attend all course sessions. • All courses are taught in English. • We encourage our students to go abroad and take International Management courses as part of an ERASMUS exchange program. • We are intensively cooperating with inter-nationally renowned guest professors and strongly recommend that our students take at least one course with a visiting professor.
„Spezialisierungsfach“ - Examination • Written examination („1 Partiale"), 120 minutes • The examination covers the course topics of the "Schwerpunktfach“ (except of „Special Topics“) • The examination grade includes the arithmetic mean of the individual course grades of all courses (50%)
Writing a Diploma Thesis in IM • In English or German • Requirements: - Successful completion of the “Schwerpunktfach” in International Management - Students in the “Spezialisierungsfach” have priority over others • Topics: Typically chosen individually by the student. In case of specific research projects, available topics are posted on the homepage.
Writing a Diploma Thesis in IM • Focus: - Topic within the area of “International Management” - Either theoretically or empirically oriented - Quantitative as well as qualitative studies are possible - As part of the literature review, the student must search for articles related to her or his thesis topic in recent issues (last five years) of specified journals (see homepage)
