  2. Background • Request to SC-6 from incoming NPEC Chair • Request for input from NPEC Chair for topics to consider for new Digital I&C standards • Feedback provided to SC-6 members prior to this meeting • Selection of topics at SC-6 meeting yesterday

  3. Recommended New Digital I&C Standards • Digital Safety System Security and Cyber Security • Must include non-safety systems • Will include design and software development • Will assess existing guidance first • Application of Smart Sensors and Actuators in NPP Safety Systems • Important to Safety Classification • Address the gap between Class 1E and Non-1E • Provide better consistency with IEC standards

  4. Recommended Additions to Digital I&C Standards • Address other technologies in addition to “digital computers” in IEEE Std. 7-4.3.2 • Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)

  5. Planned I&C Standards Harmonization • IEEE Std. 497 Accident Monitoring Instrumentation • No equivalent in IEC • IEEE Std. 7-4.3.2 with IEC 60880 • Resolve independence issues between IEEE Std. 384 (physical) and IEEE Std. 7-4.3.2 (communications)
