2. Admissions: Your Portal connection to: • Admissions – Accept your admission to a UC! • Financial Aid – Review • your award! • Housing – sign-up • Orientation - register • And all other • communications to you.

3. Meeting the Conditions of Your Admission • Complete all courses you indicated as “in progress” or “planned” with grades of C or better. If you receive a D, F, W, NP or NC grade, you must notify the Office of Admissions immediately. • Ensure that official results of external examinations including Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), A-Level examinations, or language proficiency exams such as TOEFL or IELTS are received by the Office of Admissions by July 15, 2016. • Ensure that final official transcripts from high schools and all higher-education institutions attended are received by the Office of Admissions by July 1, 2016. Final official transcripts must show grades received for spring term. • Failure to meet these conditions may result in your admission being rescinded.

Academic Preparation: • Academic Advising • Attend Summer Orientation • Placement exams • Enroll in fall courses • Learn about campus resources; e.g., • tutoring, advising, and more • Experiential learning opportunities • Learn about summer transition • programs; e.g., Summer Bridge, STEP, etc. • Learn about Educational Opportunity • Programs (EOP)

5. Campus Bookstore: • Review online required textbooks • Purchase computer • Purchase school supplies • Obtain summer reading assignments

6. Campus Visits: • Inquire about spring programs for admitted students • Inquire about Student Initiated Outreach (SIO) programs • Schedule appointment (if possible) with academic adviser within major • Schedule appointment with Financial Aid adviser • Schedule campus tour for you and your family

Offers of Financial Assistance will begin to be available for newly admitted students at MyUCMerced. June 1: 
Deadline for all students to submit supplemental documents requested by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.  Day before bill due:

8. After Accepting Your Admission After submitting your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR): A student’s classification as a resident or nonresident is determined by the Residence Deputy, located in the Registrar’s Office. Classifications are based on evidence presented in a student’s Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) and supporting evidence a Residence Deputy deems necessary for determination. Residency will not be approved until the student’s final transcripts are received.

9. California Non-Residential Tuition Exemption Request To be submitted by an AB 540 student after the student has accepted their admission via Statement of Intent to Register (SIR); • The affidavit is required by the UC campus the student will be attending • The affidavit states that the student will adjust their status, as soon as they are eligible to do so • Students are not required to submit a new affidavit when there is continuous enrollment • The information on the affidavit is kept confidential, as required by law. Immigration has no access to student information

10. Personal Finances: • Open checking and savings account before school begins – allows for family to deposit money into your account remotely • Attend Financial Management workshops – if offered by the Office of Financial Aid • Establish and maintain a personal budget for each quarter or semester

11. Placement Examinations: • Review letter regarding the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement on Saturday, May 10, 2016 (tentative date) – required of all first-year students. • Review online, http://www.ucop.edu/elwr, how students can meet this requirement • Register for the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement Exam • Recall if you received fee waiver for the UC application. If yes, you may qualify for a fee waiver to cover the $110 fee • Pay $110 fee, inquire about reduced fee • Call 800-839-8507 if you have not received information regarding the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement Exam • Take placement exams if required by the UC campus or your major – for details, check with the Summer Orientation office • Biology • Chemistry • Foreign language • Mathematics

12. Student Business Services (this title may vary between UC campuses): • Set-up Deferred Payment Plan through the Office of Student Business Services • Receive student bill • Pay fall bill – or, first installment of Deferred Payment Plan – before Move-In Day • Arrange for direct deposit of reimbursement check(s) - Sign up for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)

13. Student Disability Services: • Schedule meeting, prior to the fall, with Student Disability Services to have assessment regarding assistance for the upcoming academic year • Submit medical records to Student Disability Services if requesting assistance regarding a learning or physical disability

14. Student Employment: • Go online to review and apply for student employment for the fall – DO NOT wait till fall – especially if Work Study is part of your financial aid award • If hired, prepare to provide a combination of the following acceptable I-9 documents prior to student employment: • California Identification • Driver’s License • Passport • Permanent Residence Card • Social Security Card • Sign up for direct deposit (provide voided check) • AB 540 students who have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or U-Visa status can apply for employment. Check with Career Center to inquire about appropriate documents you will need to provide if offered an on-campus position.

15. Student Health: • Submit Health Insurance Waiver Form, only if declining student health insurance • Carry your insurance card at all times, if you are covered under a health insurance plan other than the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) • Submit proof of Hepatitis B immunization to Student Health Center • Or, complete Hepatitis B immunization - series of three doses required for enrollment at UC (for those under 19 on first day of classes) unless there is a medical contraindication

16. STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE: The University of California requires that all registered students have health insurance. To help you meet this requirement, UC Merced automatically enrolls all registered students in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). Fees for UC SHIP coverage are automatically charged to your student account each school term along with your other fees. Students who wish to use their family insurance will need to submit a UCSHIP Waiver form by mid-August. The waiver may be available online – check with the Student Health Center Insurance Office. DACA students are strongly encouraged to register for Medi-Cal in their home county. Prior to the fall students should contact their case worker to request change of address.

17. Summer Orientation: • Receive information regarding Summer Orientation • Register for Summer Orientation • Register you and your family for Summer Orientation • Pay Orientation fee • Inquire if fee waiver is available for Summer Orientation • Inquire with the Orientation Office regarding the deferment of orientation fee • Before attending Summer Orientation, inquire about local or on-campus overnight lodging • Attend Summer Orientation

18. Transportation: • Research means of traveling home should you not have a vehicle; e.g., airports, Greyhound, AMTRAK, ride boards, shuttles, etc. • Review online schedule of on-campus and off-campus transportation • Apply for parking permit through Transportation and Parking Services – if permitted

19. University Housing: • Sign up for University Housing • Pay housing deposit • Inquire with the Housing Office about the deferment of housing deposit • Register for special accommodations for students with disabilities, if needed • Inquire about theme housing options • Submit online housing questionnaire for roommate capability • If you and a friend wish to be roommates, you must identify each other as desired roommates • Contact roommate(s) to arrange to meet before school begins • Determine who will bring: • Microwave • Refrigerator • Television • Video game devices • Etc. • Review the list of appropriate things to have in your residence hall room or suite –this list will be provided by housing • Inquire about insurance • Renter insurance • Homeowner insurance coverage for residence hall room • Purchase personal necessities before Move-In Day
