HPL is composed of several layers, including a base layer made from kraft paper infused with phenolic resin for enhanced durability, a decorative layer that can mimic various textures and designs, and an overlay layer that protects against damage. The combination of these layers is compressed under significant heat and pressure to create a solid laminate. There are several finishes available for HPL, such as glossy, which offers a sleek appearance; matte, which minimizes glare; textured, which resembles natural materials; satin, which provides a soft sheen; and embossed or brushed, which adds a tactile element suitable for surfaces like countertops.
