What is DYW? • Scotland’s Youth Employment Strategy (Dec 2014) • Scottish Government’s Seven Year Initiative to create a world class vocational education system • DYW aims to: • Improve the options on offer for young people, and • Reduce youth unemployment to the levels of the best performing countries in Europe

Delivering for Scotland • SQA understands the needs of learners and of employers • Key agencies are working together to take a leading role in delivering DYW: • SQA • Education Scotland • Skills Development Scotland • Scottish Funding Council • Employers, colleges, schools, and training providers also asked to play an active role

Apex Hotels – How they Got Involved • Helping School to encourage more pupils to stay engaged with Education & Learning • Pre apprenticeship in Hospitality launched • Working across all departments 2 afternoons a week • Pipeline of talent to recruit into Hotels • Working with School and SQA to see what the program will look like next year • Same model now being used with Schools in Dundee and Glasgow

Graeme High School – Falkirk National 5 Skills for Work Engineering School/Employer/College Partnership Working - Delivering N5 Skills for Work Engineering as a pathway from Practical Metalwork Employer Role - Teaching staff negotiated employer, Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME), involvement to provide practical real life industry experience - Pupils will attend REME 6 full days spread over academic year - Skills development linking into the units of the course ie changing vehicle brakes & car servicing, building and testing trailer circuits to link to electrical engineering

Graeme High School – Falkirk National 5 Skills for Work Engineering • College Role • - Forth Valley College delivering 6 sessions for pupils to be mentored and taught aspects of Engineering by the second year Oil & Gas apprentices. • - The apprentices will teach elements of the maintenance unit on how to strip, test and assemble pumping systems. • Work Placement • - There is ongoing discussion with a high profile engineering company to provide small number of work placements to pupils who show most promise throughout the course.
