This update covers ongoing projects including Single Cell Testing, Wire Status, and Data Acquisition for the Manchester team. They are evaluating properties such as signal arrival times, efficiencies, and more.

Manchester status Ray Thompson Stefan Soldner-Rembold Steve Snow Irina Nasteva James Mylroie-Smith Chris Jackson
Single cell status • taking data continuously • Properties to measure: • the three signal arrival times and amplitudes • efficiencies • dead time and afterpulsing • signal attenuation vs length of propagation • voltage and gas (alcohol content) dependence Manchester status
Second single cell • A cell with one anode and one cathode. • under construction • will measure the field on the cathode as a function of voltage, gas content, etc. • We also need to build a 4-m long single cell to test Geiger propagation. Manchester status
First 9-cell prototype • construction is completed • awaiting plumbing • no readout yet, waiting for single cell results • will test different wire configurations Manchester status
Wire status • the German company Trakus are sending us 5 km each of 30, 40 and 50 micron hard-drawn (not soft annealed) wire • will receive it in 3 weeks’ time • we need to understand what values are acceptable for wire resistance • Carbon fibre wire: • ordered 5 pieces of 1.5 m each for initial tests of its properties Manchester status
Data acquisition • still using 2 scopes and LabView • Scott Kolya is in contact with LAL engineers about NEMO3 readout ASIC card • we aim to have a working ASIC-based readout system by Christmas Manchester status
