Casey Anthony By: Ashley Peskowitz
Background • Born on March 19, 1986 in Warren Ohio • Youngest child of George and Cindy Anthony • Had one older brother named Lee Anthony • She had stopped attending high school and was short a few credits. • She also lied to her family that she would be graduating with her class.
Crimes committed • Casey was acquitted with her daughter’s murder • Was pointed to being guilty because her car smelled like a dead body had been in it • Casey lied to her mother about not seeing her daughter Caylee for weeks • Lied to police how a “nanny” killed Caylee • Was convicted of four convictions of lying
Sentence • Casey was sentenced to a 4 year term for lying (was sentenced a year for each count of lying)
Quotes/ Nickname • “I Didn’t kill my daughter • “If anything, there’s nothing in this world I’ve ever been more proud of, and there’s no one I loved more than my daughter. She’s my greatest accomplishment.” • Was nicknamed: “Tot mom”
Differential-Association Theory • Differential Association theory because the criminals behavior is learned in interaction with others. In Casey Anthony's case she was constantly partying and her crime may have spiraled by the influence of her peers who didn’t have a child (her not being a responsible mother). Also her always wanting to be with her peers and constantly leaving Caylee. I feel as though Casey’s peers and rough childhood had the greatest influence on her to make her think of committing a crime like this. She wanted to be young like she was before she had Caylee so she was never a good mother • If Casey Anthony didn’t have such a bad partying background I feel as though her peers would not have influenced this crime on her so much. The criminal behavior she learned was also from the internet. She google search ways to kill someone. Casey was all in all never fit to be a parent. She was still acting like a child herself in no ways should have been raising a child by herself.
Rehabilitation • I feel as though Casey Anthony was already rehabilitated after she was found not guilty of murdering her daughter. Although, if she was found guilty to begin with I do not think she would deserve to be rehabilitated. To this day I still believe she is guilty and do not think that she should be considered a law abiding citizen. I do feel as through she needs some sort of counseling/help. All in all Casey should have been simply punished to begin with.
