Dyslexicon An online resource for educators wishing to better include dyslexic learners
What problem is this resource the solution to? • Dyslexia describes differences in the way in which the brain processes information. • 8-10% of population affected by dyslexia. • This resource will provide educators in tertiary and adult education with a convenient way to evaluate their teaching resources with regard to accessibility for all learners, including dyslexic learners.
How will it work? • The resource will provide the learner with high quality external resources relating to improving the learning experience of dyslexic learners. • The external resources will be organised into 3 categories: • Definition and causes of dyslexia. • Common issues amongst dyslexic learners. • Teaching strategies for educators.
How will it work? • The learner will interact with the resource using a quiz which will use pre-programmed criteria to direct the learner to a repository of external links matched to the quiz questions they scored lowest on. • The learner is encouraged to investigate the external resources and try the quiz again to measure if there has been an improvement.
How will it work? • Ideally the quiz’s logic will be able to determine which of the three areas the user scored relatively lowest in and will direct them to the matched external links area. • This way, having hopefully progressed through the quiz a second time with a much better score, the quiz will direct the user to a different bank of external resources.
Other features • There will be access to an online glossary of terms specific to subject matter available at all points through out the resource. • We hope to provide a comments section where users of the resource can leave feedback or thoughts and possibly engage other users in discussion about their teaching experiences.
