CAD Team Volunteer TA’s: A group of students who have been successful in this course and are ready to help you succeed!
  3. IDES 240 – SPRING 2010 Lecture 1 (today): Thursday, 6:40pm – 7:30pm in 108 Bessey ALL FUTURE CLASS MEETINGS: (Section 001 Live) Designated computer labs. (Sign up for a computer lab up front after class.) (Section 740 Hybrid) Online connection with Windows Live Messenger. Course text will be available next week. Details will be sent via e-mail.
  4. IDES 240 – SPRING 2010 What’s this class about? What is CAD? Why will I need CAD in the future? How can I succeed in this course? Strategy for how we teach CAD – what should I expect?
  5. LIST OF RESOURCES Videobook with Movies (will soon be available online at SBS as an electronic download. Until then, movies will be posted on ANGEL.) TA’s (online and in labs) Student blog on ANGEL Email your TA (Ashley or Katie) Label subject line “IDES 240” Specific and clear – please avoid statements like “it’s not working”. Help us understand the problem as thoroughly as possible so we can help you! Be polite and grammatically correct. We are all professionals. INCLUDE YOUR NAME AT THE BOTTOM OF EVERY E-MAIL *We recommend using the resources IN THIS ORDER!
  6. TA LAB HOURS TA’s will be available either online or in lab at least two hours per day, Monday - Thursday. A complete schedule will be posted on ANGEL by Monday.
  7. GRADING EXAMS EXAM 1 (100 points) EXAM 2 (100 points) ASSIGNMENTS: EXERCISES (10 points each) QCT’s (Quick CAD Tasks, 2 points each)
  8. EXAMS Exam dates: Exam 1: FRIDAY February 19th Exam 2: FRIDAY April 30th*You are required to take the exams on these dates. Exams will be conducted in a designated MSU computer lab. You will have 2 hours to complete as much of the exam as possible. Exams will be held between 9:45am and 3:15pm, scheduled by appointment. You are responsible for arriving to the exam time at the designated time you signed up for. If you arrive late, you will not be given extra time to complete the exam. These exams are OPEN BOOK (Videobook/movies = bring headphones) & OPEN NOTE. Exam reviews are provided on ANGEL.
  9. ASSIGNMENTS For each assignment, the student is responsible for submitting the correct .PDF format in the dropbox on ANGEL. We only give credit to assignments that we can read, and that are in PDF format. Grades will be posted on ANGEL by 8:00PM the following Sunday. Save your assignments in MULTIPLE places! USB drive CD’s or DVD’s P: drive (your campus network space, use limited)
  10. QCT’s (Quick CAD Tasks) The purpose of QCT’s is to have EXTRA practice using the commands you learned in the previous assignment! We generally estimate that QCT’s should take about 20-30 minutes (some more, some less).
  11. CRASH ASSIGNMENTS Crash assignments are opportunities to make up points on up to TWO assignments at the END of the semester! Crash assignments are EARNED by completing short answer questions, called Crash Credits (these will be available on ANGEL). 10 Crash Credits will be offered this semester. For each 5 Crash Credits earned, the student is awarded one Crash Assignment. This means you have the opportunity to earn up to 2 Crash Assignments. Crash assignments are due by the time indicated in the course outline, to be submitted to the “Crash Assignment” dropbox on ANGEL.

Electronic text includes tips for using the product, a glossary and index of commands that will help you during exams and on the job after this course is complete If you do not choose to purchase the videobook, the essential files you need to complete assignments will be available on Angel (which you will not have access to after May 6th, 2010

  15. ASSIGNMENT 0 – TECHNOLOGY CHECK RESOURCES INSTRUCTIONS ON ANGEL TA’S ONLINE AND IN LABS TECHNOLOGY CHECK MUST BE COMPLETED TO CONTINUE IN THIS COURSE.
