School Structure • 6 Small Learning Communities (SLCs) with approximately 250-300 students • Each SLC has a: Lead Teacher (oversees the SLC) Does scheduling and facilitates SLC meetings Counselor Support students with academic, personal/social, and career inquiries
School Structure • 10-15 core teachers that are dedicated to the success of all their students in the SLC • Career pathway theme depending on your child’s SLC
Academic Requirements • 225 credits in various subjects • CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) Given in 10th grade (English & Math) • Algebra & Technology Proficiency • Senior Project
No Social Promotion • End of 9th grade (At least 45 credits) • End of 10th grade (At least 105 credits) • End of 11th grade (At least 165 credits) • End of 12th grade (At least 225 & Meet all Graduation Requirements)
Counseling • Each SLC has a counselor Academic Planning Career/college exploration Mental health referrals Drug/alcohol referrals Conflict resolution mediations Parent/teacher conferences
Attendance • Attendance is essential to your child’s academic success. • When they are absent: Please send them with a note when they return explaining why The attendance office will issue a “re-admit” to clear the absence. If the absence is not cleared it is unexcused
Attendance Important! You can not clear an unexcused absence through a phone call!
Discipline • LBHS fosters a climate of learning that is safe and conducive to academic achievement • Please look on page 16 in the Parent Handbook for a list of infractions and corresponding consequences
Dress Code • The dress code is on page 18 of the handbook • Students not following dress code will be given an opportunity to change or call home for a change of clothes
Parent Involvement • Checking if homework is complete • Communicating with teachers and counselors on your student’s progress • Attending meetings • Checking grades and attendance online

Visiting the School • Parents are always welcome to visit the school. • Please enter through the front of the school, sign in and get a Visitor’s Pass. • If visiting a teacher, please make arrangements ahead of time.
Home/School Communication • Grades and Progress reports are mailed home a total of 8 times during the school year. • We send out Connect-Ed phone messages throughout the year for major events and test dates. • Make sure your address and phone number are current. • Website http://lutherburbank.scusd.edu/
Home Visit • LBHS participates in the Home Visit project. • Teachers/counselors go out to your home to strengthen communication to improve student achievement in an environment that is comfortable for the family.
7th Period • 7th period is from 3:06 – 4:02 every day except Thursday • Athletes are encouraged to take a 7th period study skills class • During lunch today, sign your child up at the After-School Program Table
