  2. SHAP- Safety Hazard Assessment Procedure, • Detailed SHAP- Very detailed evaluation of the risk associated with a specific procedure. • General SHAP- A more general evaluation of the risk associated with a procedure or work area. • Hazard Classes- Different types of hazards associated with our DC’s and MFG facilities • Risk Matrix- A grid that defines the level of risk you have once you complete your SHAP Analysis. • Probability Levels- An alphabetical ranking of how often an incident could occur from improbable to frequent. • Severity Levels- A numerical ranking of progressive levels of severity from negligible to catastrophic. Definitions!!

  3. Shap???? Danger = Risk = Means of control = +

  4. We need to define the risk associated with our facility and the equipment that is in our facility. Upon completion of the SHAP based on the risk factor, we need to take steps to reduce the risk and communicate the risks that exist to the employees. We must take the proper steps of reducing and eliminating risk to prevent an incident! Why Create a SHAP?

  5. Shap development is a team process • You can have more than 1 team develop Shaps • Team 1 could brainstorm and determine where Shaps should be written • Team 2 could write the Shap and develop the actual process` • Key is to remember to include your staff in the development!!! Who Creates the shap???

  6. Initial hazards analysis to prioritize areas of principal concern • Looks at the full set of operations within the whole site • Provides a site hazards control profile in order to define detailed SHAP needs • No need to review all potential accidents and risk levels • Concentrate : • on visible hazardous situations • on general prevention of hazardous situations • on existing general protections General SHAP:

  7. Follow-up of detailed safety hazards assessments • Focus on specialized distribution center operations or distribution center equipment • Identifies full extent of hazards and imagined risks • Prescribes controls, and future risk management strategies • Must analyze all hazardous situations and particularly the non-visible ones • Requires a review all potential accidents Detailed SHAP :
