TANDBERGVideo Communication Server March 2008
TANDBERG Video Communication Server Background SIP is the future protocol of video communication and will be a driving force to integrating video communication with the rest of the IP Communication world. SIP brings advanced capabilities to video not available through H.323. VCS is the center of TANDBERG’s SIP strategy. FindMeTM brings a new level of personalization and flexibility to video communication and enables telephony like features in video.
TANDBERG Video Communication Server Two base application packages and the FindMeTM option… TANDBERG FindMeTM TANDBERG ExpresswayTM TANDBERG Control SIP and H.323 Network Control and Administration Base Package SIP and H.323 Network Firewall Traversal Base Package Call the Person not the Device Option Public Internet Internal SIP & H.323 Devices VCS deployed with a Control base package is deployed inside the firewall VCS deployed with an ExpresswayTM base package is deployed outside the firewall
TANDBERG VCS Control Application * Control Base Application Features • Control Base Package • H.323 gatekeeper • SIP controller (proxy registrar) • Deployed inside the LAN • Internal video network control and administration • SIP:H.323 Interworking(transparent dialing/gateway) • Endpoint and Network Infrastructure Registration control • IPv4 to IPv6 Interworking (gateway) • Bandwidth control H.323:SIP Interworking feature parity includes encryption and dual video Summary: VCS, when purchased with a Control base package is deployed inside the firewall and functions in a similar capacity to the Gatekeeper. Key difference is that VCS supports SIP and H.323 devices. H.323 SIP VCS Control Application * ICSA certification is for VCS version X1
VCS is the Center of the Video Network INTERNAL ONLY DO NOT DISTRIBUTE VCS VCS VCS VCS VCS UC Server Recording IVR TMS HD MCU SD MCU ISDN Gateways Movi* Future Possibilities for interoperability include: * Movi Firewall Traversal is a future capability
TANDBERG Control Application Control Base Application Key Points Migration Path To SIP without having to replace H.323 Integrate video networks and IP Telephony Gatekeeper functionality for SIP and H.323 Seamless SIP – H.323 Interworking
TANDBERG VCS ExpresswayTM Application * ExpresswayTM Base Application Features • H.323 and SIP Firewall Traversal - ExpresswayTM, the same standards based Firewall Traversal capabilities in existing TANDBERG Border Controller. - H.323: ITU Standard H.460.18 & 19 and Assent -SIP: IETF Standard STUN Relay & Discovery • Future functionality with Movi VCS, when purchased with an ExpresswayTMoperates in a similar capacity to the Border Controller with additional SIP functionality. ExpresswayTM Application * ICSA certification is for VCS version X1
TANDBERG VCS ExpresswayTM Application ExpresswayTM Base Application Key Points Migration Path To SIP without having to replace H.323 Standards based Firewall Traversal functionality for SIP and H.323 Seamless SIP – H.323 calls outside the network PC Based Applications like Movi2 (future capability) will be able to make firewall traversal calls.
Optimal VCS Deployment The optimal scenario will require at least two VCS boxes (like a Gatekeeper and Border Controller). FindMeTM application can be deployed both inside and outside the firewall, however it is recommended to be deployed inside the LAN. Control Application ExpresswayTM Application
VCS Functions with Existing Technology VCS operates with existing Gatekeepers and Border Controllers on an H.323 basis, so there is no need to swap out existing infrastructure. Benefits of SIP to Video SIP has proven benefits with other forms of communication…. SIP Based Microsoft OCS and other Unified Communication Applications Allows different media on the same call (e.g. IM, Voice, Video) Easy to add features SIP based Voice-over-IP Phones Extensive Call Forwarding and Hold Capabilities Works well with other protocols
TAA Video Communication Server Option TANDBERG FindMeTM • Call the person, not the device…TANDBERG FindMeTM brings extensive call forwarding capabilities to video communication. • Calls are connected to the appropriate device by dialing only one address. on the road… in her office… at home… in the boardroom…
TANDBERG FindMeTM Application Key Points Integrates communication devices making video integral Brings telephony like features to video Encourages greater use of desktop video Makes it easy to find an individual and to be found
TANDBERG FindMeTM Application – Case Study #1 Healthcare Application TANDBERG Solution utilizes the combined solution of TANDBERG Codian IP Gateway and the TANDBERG Video Communication Server - FindMeTM Background: Regional Healthcare system relies on larger hospitals to support smaller hospitals through the use of video. Access to more extensive resources for smaller, remote hospitals Access to more extensive resources for smaller, remote hospitals Wider and more timely Access to Doctors Across the Healthcare Network
TANDBERG FindMeTM Application - Case Study #1 Solution: TANDBERG Codian IP Gateway, along with FindMeTM enables optimal use of hospital resources, including timely access to the right Doctor. Healthcare Application 1 – Remote Regional Hospitals use video to call into TANDBERG TANDBERG Codian IP Gateway 2 – Caller selects appropriate department 3 – TANDBERG Codian IP Gateway routes call to FindMeTM, which rings which rings all doctors in department…first available doctor answers. VCS FindMeTM 4 – Call not answered? Call is routed by FindMeTM to a video operator, who can then forward call to available doctor.
TAA Video Communication Server Option Dual Network Interfaces The perfect solution for large enterprise customers with multiple firewalls. External DMZ Internal DMZ VCS VCS ExpresswayTM Application Control Application
TAA Video Communication Server Option Dual Network Interfaces Dual Network Interfaces also allows a VCS Expressway to be deployed within the internal-facing DMZ between a firewall and an external-facing router using ACL. Internal DMZ VCS VCS ExpresswayTM Application Control Application Router ACL
TAA Video Communication Server Option Dual Network Interfaces Key Points Enables security conscious organizations with multi-tiered Firewalls or ACL Border Routers to connect zones within their network. Enables security conscious organizations with proxy non-routable traffic within the DMZ For Firewall Traversal opportunities TANDBERG advocates standards based firewall traversal mechanisms only, ExpresswayTM
TAA Video Communication Server Option Awards and Certifications * TANDBERG VCS ICSA Certification Report Control and Expressway Applications are ICSA Certified * ICSA certification is for VCS version X1
Software Updates VCS Software Update X2 Extended parity between H323 & SIP Encryption supported for H323 – SIP gateway calls. Dual Streams (presentation) for H323 – SIP* gateway calls. Dual Network Interfaces Allows the VCS ExpresswayTM to connect to two separate networks in a DMZ deployment. Easier to manage, quicker to deploy Increased usability of the administration web interface. * Contingent on F7 upgrade to MXP endpoints
