General Arthropod Morphology Bodies show clear segmentation with a pair or pairs of appendages per segment. Includes head, thorax, and abdomen sections. Bilaterally symetrical Exoskeleton: Strong, lightweight, form-fitted. Striated Muscle: Quick, strong, lightweight muscle that makes rapid movement possible. Articulation: Ability to bend appendages at specific points.
Molting Arthropods molt or shed their exoskeleton made of chitin as they grow. A new exoskeleton is secreted through special glands. A blue crab that molts is called a soft shell crab and is a delicacy.
