Mrs. Jones’ Classroom Procedures “Effective classroom discipline… should be a means of helping students become caring, ethical individuals” (Hardin, 2008)
Starting the Day • Greet Mrs. Jones in the hallway. • Come in QUIETLY Unpack your backpack at your cubby then hang on your assigned hook. Place your homework folder in the homework folder basket. Place the things you will need for the day in either your chair pocket. • Go to the carpet and sit down nicely criss-cross applesauce with your hands in your lap and wait for Morning Meeting and announcements. You may read while you wait.
Morning Meeting • Each day, we will start at the front carpet area to begin Morning Meeting. • Morning Meeting is an important way for us to learn and have fun together; however, in order to make this possible, you must follow the rules. • Each day we will discuss how our day is going to go, anything we should work on together as a team, and discuss the weather and date of current day. • During Morning Meeting, it is important that we: Have a positive attitude. Listen to each other. We respect when our friends are talking and when Mrs. Jones is talking. • Participate! This means listening, participating in activities, and responding to questions.
Bathroom and Drinks • If you need a drink of water you may show Mrs. Jones the hand signal of 4 fingers in the air. Make sure you throw your trash away and clean up any spills. Only 1 person allowed at a time. • Bathroom and Drinks will only be allowed if you are not disrupting the class. You are free to use the classroom bathroom anytime during class as long as you are not being disruptive, quietly use the signal of crossing your fingers in the air and wait for Mrs. Jones to give you approval. When using the bathroom during class, you will need to take the restroom pass with you. Make sure you hang it back up when you return to the classroom.
Asking a Question • Asking questions is ALWAYS encouraged! However, there is a time for questions and comments and a time for listening. Please don’t interrupt when I am in the middle of speaking. • Raise your hand, quietly. When we call out, no one can hear what anyone else is saying. • If I see your hand, I know you have a question or comment and I will give you time to speak. You do not need to wave your hand in the air or make noises. This is distracting to me and to your classmates.
Exiting the Classroom • When it is time to leave the room, Mrs. Jones will ask you to line up in your line order. Please do not line up until you are asked to do so. This is true even of the line leader, and door holder. • We should be Facing front with our hands to our side or behind our backs, and a bubble in our mouths. • The door holder will hold the door nicely so all the students can exit the class. When the whole class has left the rooms quietly, get back to your spot in line by saying, “excuse me”. • We wait in line quietly. When everyone is ready to walk in the halls, we will leave the classroom. • 5. The line leader will lead line out the door in the direction Mrs. Jones has given the caboose in the back who will shut of our lights. The Door holder will get into their place in line nicely.
Walking in the Hallway • When walking down the hall, we do not want to disturb other classrooms where learning is taking place. We walk down the hall quietly. We are responsible students who respect the rights of students who are learning. • We walk on the right hand side of the hallway and stay in a line, one student behind the other, with our feet on the white tiles. • There is always a line leader, a door holder, and a caboose. The line leader will always walk first and the caboose will always walk last. • When in line, we keep our hands to ourselves, our shoes on our feet, and eyes on the person in front of us. We are all going to the same place, so there is no need to rush.
Packing Up • I will call you 1- 2 tables at a time, based on behavior, to go to your cubby and get your backpack and coat, and collect things from your mailbox. • Students with Chair Stacker Job will stack the chairs up. • Sit quietly on the carpet until everyone is packed up. You may talk at a number 1 level. • I will come around and check to be sure you have your planner and all your homework.
Dismissal • This will be dependent on School Policy. Slide will be updated when hired.
