Facts about alcohol • The most commonly used drug • Produces intoxication – a sense of euphoria • Depresses brain functioning (in “layers”) • Cognitive: Judgment, Inhibitions • Emotional: Fighter, Cryer, Philosopher, Lover • Fine Motor Skills: Reaction Time, Coordination, Vision • Gross Motor Skills: Speech, balance • Urination, vomiting, passing out - the body’s defenses against alcohol poisoning • Tolerance develops and addiction can occur
