STORAGE DEVICE HARD DISK
Key component of hard disk • Platters and media • Read –Write heads • Heads slider, arms and actuator • Spindle motor • Connectors and jumpers • Logic board • Integrated cache
PLATTERS AND MEDIA • Platters are composed of two main substances, a substrate material that forms the bulk of the platter and gives it structure and rigidity, and a magnetic media coating which actually holds the magnetic impulses that represent the data.
Read –Write heads • Disk read/write heads then again convert back the magnetic pulses stored on the hard disk into bits when data is read from the hard disk.
HEADS SLIDER, ARMS AND ACTUATOR • Heads slider, arms and actuator is the device use to position the head arms to different tracks on the surface on the platter.
Spindle motor • The Spindle motor provide stable, reliable and consists turning power to the hard disk to function it properly.
Connectors and jumpers • Jumpers pins a set of pins, across two of which the jumper is placed to make a specific connection. • Power connector • Data interface connector • Ide – ata configuration jumpers • Scsi- configuration jumpers
LOGIC BOARD • The Logic board is responsible to control hard disk function, and as hard disk become faster and more function are added to the Logic board.
INTEGRATED CACHE • The propose of this cache is similar to that of other cache in the computer.
Geometry of hard disk drive • hard disk drive of geometry: • Heads • Cylinders • Sectors per track • Write precompensation • Landing zone
Heads • The heads of hard disk drive represents of sides of all the platters the store data. • Cylinders • All the data on a hard disk is stored on concentric circles on the surface each heads. • Sectors per track • The tracks into small arcs called sectors, can hold 512 bytes of data. The number of tracks present on a sector. Sectors per tracks at 63.
