Signs of False IDs • Picture does not resemble bearer. • Bearer cannot quickly state birth date or address. • Bearer’s signature does not match. • Driver’s license does not match a legitimate sample. • Lamination seems too thick or has cuts or overlays. • Quality of print is poor or indistinct. • Holograms or ghost images do not appear of high quality. • Magnetic strip is covered by plastic laminate.

21. Helpful Hints Cut and Paste Method: The ID is scanned into a computer where the photographs are removed and replaced. The ID card that results from this action is then printed and laminated onto appropriate card.

22. Helpful Hints Copy Process: To detect copies, start by looking at the blending of colors. The colors should be crisp, sharp, and very distinctive. Also look at the ink used in the printing. Ink used in legitimate forms of ID should not bleed onto other colors or parts of the card.

23. Helpful Hints Holograms: A hologram is designed so that it will appear in a three dimensional (3D) state and totally disappear when rotated. Holograms will be damaged if altered. Most popular false holograms are the word “Secure”, or the “Lockand Key” designs used. NO STATES use these designs on their legitimate IDs.

Checking IDs • “Department of Identification” or “D.O.I”s are the second most common manufactured fake ID found in Stillwater. • They can be bought over the internet or purchased in novelty shops around the country. • Regardless of state portrayed they all bear two round gold metal seals stating. • “DEPARTMENT OF IDENTIFICATION”.

Checking IDs Any ID that has any of the following is a FAKE: • The word, “Genuine”. • The word “Authentic”. • The words “Department of Authenticity”. • The words “Guaranteed Authentic”. • Keys or locks (usually both on the same ID). • And, of course, “Department of Identification.” None of these are found on any valid ID in the US or Canada. A Identification card with a “CLASS” designation is probably always fake.
