Boston Tea Party – December 16, 1773 • Tea Act • A monopoly on tea imports was given to the British East India Company • Colonists turned back all BEIC ships from their ports • 3 BEIC ships came into Boston Harbor and were not allowed to leave by the colonists • Sons of Liberty • Disguised as Indians, they boarded the 3 ships and threw the contents (tea) into the harbor.
