Local Pollen. By Dan Murphy. I started by collecting flowers from different trees and flowers in my neigborhood. After removing the stamens I made slides by rubbing them in glycerine. . Most of the samples yeilded either poor amounts of pollen, or were uninteresting to look at.

I started by collecting flowers from different trees and flowers in my neigborhood. After removing the stamens I made slides by rubbing them in glycerine.
Most of the samples yeilded either poor amounts of pollen, or were uninteresting to look at. • Surprisingly my best samples came from an unlikely source.
“Bee pollen” collected by honey makers and sold as a nutritional supplement yielded many of my best pictures. • Unfortunately it is impossible to know what flower each grain came from
