Unravel of the Jim Crow Laws • Jim Crow laws began to unravel in the 1940’s • In 50’s, Supreme Court struck down segregated schools • Civil rights, Voting rights, and Fair house acts were also passed
Segregation • African Americans avoided power, due to white supremacists. • Wealthy blacks avoided any signs of wealth • Black WW1 veterans came back to find segregation in their community
Vocabulary • Segregation: the condition or process in which people of different groups are kept separate from each other, or in which on group is kept apart form others. • Jim Crow Laws: laws that separated blacks from whites in all aspects in public life • Supremacists: One who believes a certain group should be supreme
