Line-of-Sight • Fresnel Zone • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresnel_zone • The antenna should be installed at more than a certain height. Solwise Ltdwww.solwise.co.uksales@solwise.co.uk Source: Wikipedia, 2010
LOS and Fresnel Zone • Install the antennas at places which is high enough for LOS transmission. • For example, installing at higher places to avoid traffic or building landscape • By the ground • By road traffic • By an obstacle Solwise Ltdwww.solwise.co.uksales@solwise.co.uk Source: Wikipedia, 2010
Line-of-Sight If there is a tree between the two nodes, then the antenna should be installed at a higher location to avoid the tree obstacle, trying to calculate the height roughly by the Fresnel Zone formula. Solwise Ltdwww.solwise.co.uksales@solwise.co.uk

Features • Distance in Meters • Spanning Tree Protocol • STP Forward Delay • VLAN 802.1Q • Management VLAN ID • System Monitor • Software-triggered Watchdog Reset • Adjustable Output Power • Selectable Bandwidth: 5/10/20/40 MHz • TDM Coordination • TDM Coordination Time Slice • NoACK • Under TDMA mode, enabling NoACK can enhance throughput but it might result in higher error rates in a noisy environment. • WMM(Wi-fi Multi-media) • Super Mode Solwise Ltdwww.solwise.co.uksales@solwise.co.uk
Features • Uplink Speed Limit • P2MP • Set by MAC address • Set by Group ID • Antenna Alignment Tool • A very useful feature using BEEP frequency when your are adjusting the antenna • Link Test • Broadcast SSID • Hiding network name is necessary when you are in a wireless environment that may have potential risk. By disabling broadcast SSID, the STA cannot scan and find the IEEE 802.11a/n Wireless Outdoor CPE, so that malicious attack by some illegal STA could be avoided. Other Considerations • Surge Protector • Ground the device properly with grounding wire to protect against lightning • Lightning Arrester • Grounding • Hard Reset • Hard Reset to Factory Default Setting • EMD (Lightning) DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRNTY Solwise Ltdwww.solwise.co.uksales@solwise.co.uk
Other Considerations • If there are a lot of smog and fog, when such extreme conditions, how to overcome the throughput degrade problem with the transmission of data getting slower • technically speaking, the transimission effectiveness is a function of (System Transmission Power) + (Antenna Gain) - (Media Loss) • When it's foggy, it means that the (Media Loss) getting bigger. There are some ways to improve it: • Use an antenna with bigger (Antenna Gain). But, bigger the antenna gain, smaller the beam angle • Increase the (System Transmission Power): it means that you should use something like external Booster. • You may use additional Z9000R2 as a relay in between the two Z9000R1 that it will shorten the hop-distance and get better throughput. • Use some devices running at 700MHz or 900MHz band. Essentially, the lower the band frequency the signal is, the higher the signal penetration. The problem is that you need to change all the system, and the 700/900MHz may be the licenced band in your country. Furthermore, you need to have field-trial to know the exact effectiveness. Solwise Ltdwww.solwise.co.uksales@solwise.co.uk
Other Considerations • What if the signal quality is poor or not so good? • Check whether there is obstacle between units. Obstacle may lead to poor signal. • Check the antenna height. Place the unit in a high position can help to get a better communication in long distance transmission. • Check the polarization direction of antenna. Keep the polarization direction of antennas on two associating units the same; if not (one is horizontal, another is vertical), the signal quality may reduce dramatically. • Check the antenna angle. Align the antenna to the remote one if using directional antenna. Big angle shift may lead to poor signal. • Check the feeder length. Too long feeder may increase the signal loss and affect the unit performance. Solwise Ltdwww.solwise.co.uksales@solwise.co.uk
