Bigfoot, also known as “Sasquatch” has been a part of Native American legend and lore since the times before white settlers ever set foot in the New World. The world-famous cryptid is known for having the appearance of a tall half-man, half-ape creature with massive feet and a foul smell.
What makes this creature so mysterious is that bigfoot is known for being able to seemingly disappear without a trace after ducking behind trees, as well as the fact that one of these creatures has never been captured and viewed in captivity – despite the hundreds of efforts to find one and catch one alive.
Most of the legends told by Native Americans have faded away into the past, but the tale of bigfoot seems to be as relevant as ever before. For those who study cryptozoology, the fact of the matter is that it only makes sense. After all, hunters, hikers, farmers, and even policemen swear that they have experience bigfoot sightings as recently as in the past couple of months.
– The creature is described as standing 7–10 ft tall and weighing more than 35 stone, with footprints 17 inches long. Bigfoot is also known as Sasquatch. 2) – In 1965, Bigfoot was officially put on the endangered species list in Russia. Germany and France followed suit in 1967. 3) - The British explorer David Thompson is sometimes credited with the first discovery in 1811 of a set of Sasquatch footprints. Many people since then claim to have taken pictures of the hairy beast's footprints, though nobody can produce any hard evidence.
4) - If you are confronted by Bigfoot, offering it food will provide you with an 80 per cent chance of survival, while crying will provoke the animal to punch you in the face, according to Bigfoot Finder, a website dedicated to spotting the creature. 5) - There is conflicting scientific evidence about Bigfoot. Some researchers believe it is closely related to humans while others think Bigfoot originated from an extinct giant ape. It may even be an extraterrestrial being. 6) - The eating habits of Bigfoot are widely disputed. Researchers suggest it may be vegetarian, while others believe the creature must be a carnivore. Kit Kats are also reported to be on Bigfoot's menu. 7) – Usain Bolt would be left in the dust if he ever raced against Bigfoot as the hairy beast is said to be able to run at speeds of 35mph.
8) – Early Native American tribes saw Bigfoot as a spiritual being, depicting it on totem poles, and had a name for the creature in their own language. They saw Sasquatch as a protector of the woods. 9) - Up until this week, the scientific community had discounted Bigfoot's existence. Earlier this year, Texas veterinarian Melba Ketchum announced that her team of researchers had found Bigfoot DNA, but no science journal would publish the results. She then set up her own journal and charged users $30 to access the results. 10) – Mating season for Bigfoot is from March to April. The creatures are said to mate in a similar fashion to gorillas.
