Judy Blume About the author project *Author info taken from Judy’s official web site: JudyBlume.com*
Meet Judy Blume Judy Blume was born in February of 1938. She spent her childhood in Elizabeth, New Jersey, making up stories inside her head. She has spent her adult years in many places doing the same thing, only now she writes her stories down on paper. Adults as well as children will recognize such Blume titles as: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret; Blubber; Just as Long as We're Together; and the five book series about the irrepressible Fudge. She has also written three novels for adults, Summer Sisters; Smart Women; and Wifey, all of them New York Times bestsellers. ✪Her real name is Judith Sussman! ✪
More than 80 million copies of her books have been sold, and her work has been translated into thirty-one languages.
Judy’s favorite books are The Betsey-Tacy series by Maud Lovelace! Throughout her career, Judy has won more than ninety literary awards. Most notably, in 1996 she was selected by the American Library Association for its Margaret A. Edwards Award for her contributions to young adult literature. She has also won such notable awards as the Library of Congress Living Legends award and the National Book Foundation’s medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
Interesting Setting Info “Many of my books are set in New Jersey because that's where I was born and raised. I lived there until my kids finished elementary school. Then we moved to New Mexico, the setting for Tiger Eyes. I also spent two years in Connecticut, where Just As Long As We're Together and Here's To You, Rachel Robinson are set. And Fudge-a-mania grew out of a summer spent in Maine. I don't think I could set a book in a place without knowing it really well”. -JB
