Methodologyand Sample Description • Stratified samples of civilian/nonmilitary spouses of Active Component Soldiers selected using official Army personnel files • Three subsamples defined based on the deployment status of the Soldier spouse during the last 36 months, that is, the Soldier spouse is/has: • Currently Deployed (CD) • Deployed & Returned (DR) • Not deployed (ND) • Each subsample received a different survey with some items tailored to the Soldier spouse’s deployment status. • SAF VI conducted from February 2010 through June 2010 • 16,805 responses received; 28% response rate • 16,805 usable responses included in the final database (5,990 spouses of officers and 10,815 spouses of enlisted personnel)
Methodology and Sample Description • 7. Results weighted to total population of 269,745 spouses of Active Component Soldiers (45,009 officers and 224,736 enlisted), including: • 45,447 spouses of Currently Deployed Soldiers • 146,487 spouses of Deployed & Returned Soldiers • 77,811 spouses of Not Deployed Soldiers • The following text and graphic slides present weighted population percentages for spouses. • The text slides specify the SAF VI subsample and, when trend data is available, compare the SAF VI data with the total sample data from SAFs of previous years. • The text slides also indicate when there are significant differences between the 2004/5 and 2010 responses. • The graphic slides present the sampling error along with the subsample (CD, DR, ND) for which data are presented.
Methodology and Sample Description • Add sampling errors (SE) to determine if differences in percentage results are statistically significant. • SE for total spouses +/- 1% • Raw unweighted sample sizes and sampling errors:
