Kind of Blue is a project where Carolina students work together to produce a single CD illustrating the collective musical consciousness of UNC. Students send in a single original track of music to Cobb dorm, and the Connected Learning Program group creates a mix CD to sell around campus. The number of students passionately involved in musical activity throughout the University is tremendous. Some students play in local bands; others sing in a cappella groups. Kind of Blue sought to better expose these artists and bands around Chapel Hill.
Over the course of the past six months group members helped design and post fliers, recruited bands and local artists, reviewed submitted tracks and auditions, designed a CD label, organized a benefit concert at a bar on Franklin Street, and provided UNC with an eclectic taste of the music that exists on campus. As we sell the CDs around campus, the money made will go towards music scholarships. The UNC Music Department's Scholarship Committee will administer the funds.
