  2. WELCOME! It’s time to forecast and choose your classes for next year. Here are the steps you will follow…

  3. Forecasting: Step by Step • Use Course Planning Guide • Discuss with parents, teachers, others • Fill in forecast sheet • Get signatures • Meet with counselor as needed • Turn in form to teacher by due date

  4. Graduation Credit Requirements • Language Arts 4.00 • Social Studies 3.00 • Math 3.00 • Science 3.00 • World Language 1.00 • Physical Ed 1.00 • Health 1.00 • Career/Fine Arts/Tech *2.00 • Electives 7.00 Total Credits Required: 25 • .50 credit must be earned in Technology • *may be earned in tech, fine arts, business electives

  5. How many classes do I take? • Freshmen = 7 classes • Sophomores = 7 classes • Juniors take at least 6 classes. • Seniors take at least 5 classes.

  6. Remember: • Honor Roll requires 6 graded classes. Any class taken for Pass/No Pass credit will not count. Examples: Aide, Credit by Proficiency, etc. • Athletics requires passing 5 classes & being on track to graduate

  7. Additional Requirements for Graduation: • Academic Portfolio State test scores and work samples in: Math, Writing, Speaking, Science, and Social Science. • Four Year Plan Created in the freshman year, updated each year by the student, used to guide forecasting. • Extended Application Completed in senior year within your health class • 2 Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE) Opportunities for CRLE’s are offered in Health and advanced elective classes. Bring completed forms to Ms. Cooke in the College & Career Center.

  8. General University Requirements Oregon universities require: • 4 credits of English • 3 credits of Mathematics (must show completion of Algebra 2 or higher by graduation) • 3 credits of Science • 3 credits of Social Studies

  9. College Entrance Requirements • World Language—2 credits in same language • Minimum “C” grade for core courses • .5 credit in a Visual/Performing Fine Arts class is recommended

  10. Additional College Requirements Minimum grade point averages for admission: • 3.00 for U of O, OSU, PSU, OIT, SOU • 2.75 for EOU, WOU Universities also require ACT/SAT test scores.

  12. International Baccalaureate (IB) IB is the most advanced course of study offered at GHS in six different subject areas during junior and senior year. IB Program Options: • Earn a full IB diploma • Recommended honors level classes: • 9th Grade: Honors Geography • 10th Grade: Honors English, Math, Social Studies, & Science • Earn college credit (take IB tests) • Full IB students also need 4 years of World Language.

  14. Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) CAL offers advanced courses in 5 technology-based fields for juniors and seniors: • Digital Media (Graphic Design & Video) • Programming & Networking • Medical/Dental • Engineering • Manufacturing • Questions? See Susan Fields in the Counseling office

  15. A.C.E. Academy The ACE Academy offers three areas of education: Architecture, Construction and Engineering. • Students will learn all areas in their junior year. A focus on one of the three areas in your senior year. • Two year program, students attend junior and senior years • Questions? See Mrs. Blaser in the Counseling office

  16. CAL & ACE • No Cost to attend • Students spend 3 periods at GHS and the remainder of the day at CAL/ACE • Transportation is provided • Hands on learning environment • Mentoring with professionals within your chosen area of study

  17. Forecast Process • Receive forecast sheet from teacher • Fill in personal information, counselor, and due date • Select required classes • Select electives and alternate choices • Get signatures • Return to teacher by due date.

  19. Forecast Sheet After you have completed the personal data section, • Mark core course selections with an “X” • Mark alternates with A1, A2, and A3 in order of preference. Note: You may get an alternate so choose carefully. • Choose classes for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Health. • Get signatures of teachers as indicated. • Include parent/guardian signature

  20. Remember: Aides: • One period per semester • Requires teacher’s signature • Cannot aide during teacher’s prep time

  21. Credit Recovery: To make up credits: • SUN Program • Night School • Summer School • Online School Classes must be approved by your counselor prior to registration

  23. English Sequence • *Students must apply for Honors English 3-4

  24. Math • 3 years of math (Algebra 1 and higher) are required to graduate • If you fail either semester, you must discuss with math teacher. You need a plan to catch up.

  25. Math Sequence Choice of class requires teacher’s signature.

Science • The choices for sophomore science: • Biology or Chemistry. • The choices for junior science: • College Prep: Chemistry, Physics, IB Biology SL, IB Physics • Other Science classes: Zoology, Botany, Earth Science Ask your science teacher for recommendations. Your teacher must approve your choice.

  29. Health All sophomores are required to take one semester of Health. You will take another semester your senior year.

  30. Physical Education Elective PE classes can be repeated multiple semesters. • Strength and Conditioning • Lifetime Fitness • Team Sports * Mark your sheet if you want it for a full year.

  31. ALERT! • Talk with parents, teachers and counselor before choosing your classes. • Choose very carefully. Schedule changes are almost impossible. • IB level courses will not be changed.

  33. What’s next? • Complete forecast sheet with choices & signatures. • Turn in form to teacher by due date. • You will input your choices into the computer. • Be sure your computer choices are all marked on the forecast sheet. These MUST match.
