Introduction Free-throw - an unguarded shot taken from the foul line; given to penalize the other team for committing a foul. A free-throw is worth 1 point.
ProcedureSteps to free-throw shooting • Feet shoulder width apart. • Elbow in. • Hold the ball on your fingertips. • Bend your knees. • Aim at the back of the rim. • Follow through with your shot. • Always use the same routine.
Task • Students will number off in 2’s. • All 1’s will go to one basket, 2’s to the other basket. • Each students will shoot 5 free-throws on each turn. • Rotate one space to the right after each person shoots their shots. • Continue until everyone has taken 20 shots (4 turns each). • Record how many shots each person in the group makes.
Homework Assignment • Using Excell, make a data table using the free throw percentage of each person in your group. • Next, use the information in the data table to make a chart for your group.
Evaluation • You will be evaluated by the quality of your data table and graph.
Conclusion/Review When shooting free-throws always remember the following tips: • Always use the same routine • Keep your feet shoulder width apart • Keep your elbow in • Hold the ball on your fingertips • Bend your knees • Aim at the back of the rim • Follow through If you follows these tips when practicing free-throw shooting your free-throw percentage should improve.
