Understand The Fundamentals of AKT Exam The exam lasts 3 hours and 10 minutes and contains 200 questions, with 80 percent of the questions relating to clinical medicine, 10% to evidence-based practise, and 10% to organisational domain. The examination is computerised. If necessary, a simple on-screen calculator is available, and the majority of questions are single best answer and extended matching questions.

  3. If you don't prepare, you're going to fail. Allow enough time to revise all exam material – most candidates need 3 or 4 months to cover everything thoroughly enough to pass the exam. The curriculum is extensive and covers a wide range of topics; try to take a systematic approach to ensure that you adequately cover all of the important topics. The RCGP has created an AKT topic review that goes over the key areas and subjects covered in the exam.

  4. Study The Topic, Not The Question. You will not be asked the same question twice in the exam, but rather a different one testing your knowledge of the subject. While your grade will improve with each subsequent attempt at the same questions, your knowledge may have only marginally improved (having seen the correct answers the first time, it is not surprising that you get most of them correct the next time).
