Resource Priority Namespace for ECRIT draft-polk-ecrit-local-emergency-rph-namespace-00 James Polk
ECRIT RPH Namespace • Purpose – provide an indication within a message for server processing treatment • Who wants this? • Brian sez NENA wants it • Why did ‘I’ write it? • Cuz some of us have been talking about this for years • ...and it took 6 years to get RPH to RFC... (nuff said?)
Picking a Namespace • Needs – an RFC 4412 namespace and a priority-value (range?) • 4412 requires a PS RFC to add to IANA • What to call this namespace? • I chose “Fred&Barney” as the namespace to start • Anyone want an alternative to this?
Namespace Alternatives Option #1 - Local Emergency Services - acronym "LES" or "LEMS" Example: Resource-Priority: LES.0 Option #2 - Public Safety Answering Point - acronym "PSAP" Example: Resource-Priority: PSAP.0 Option #3 - Emergency Services Call - acronym "ESC" Example: Resource-Priority: ESC.0 Option #4 - Public Emergency Call - acronym "PUC" Example: Resource-Priority: PUC.0 Option 5# - ECRIT Example: Resource-Priority: ECRIT.0 Option 6# - SOS Example: Resource-Priority: sos.0 Option # - - another acronym ? Example: Resource-Priority: ?.0
Other (wild) aspects of this ID • I floated the idea of relative priorities for different users (psap call-takers, responders, etc) • This is not a solid proposal • But a goal of 4412 is to NOT have bazillions of namespaces, so I am looking to consolidate...
What’s next (if this idea has survived to this slide...!) • Jell on a namespace • Determine if more than one priority-value has value • Determine if more namespaces are needed for different purposes within ECRIT
