Classroom Policies • Class Behavior & Participation/Attendance Key in Music Classes which are performance based classes. • Block Scheduling Mon./Thurs. 1, 3, 5 & Wed./Fri. 2, 4, 6, All Classes on Tuesdays. • Grading based on rubrics and California State Standards for Music. • We will have a performance towards the end of the Spring semester that will be mandatory for all students in the music classes. More information will be coming shortly. Please save the date of 4/30 for this performance. It will be from 5 to 8pm.
Special Projects • Advisory has the Service Learning component that will be required for graduation from LAUSD. NAHS has a portfolio requirement for participation in the graduation ceremony. • Please refer to www.yourhomework.com for all class assignments for the school year. Advisory class #43412, Beg. Band #43415, Beg. Strings #43416, Symphony Orchestra #69996, and Guitar #43418. • Any handouts are available for printing off of http://teachers.yourhomework.com/ggmartinez under “My Files” on my teacher page on the site.
Grading • Grading is to show mastery of state standards, and for verification of UC/CSU entrance requirements along with LAUSD graduation requirements. • Students receive a letter grade, as well as Work Habits & Cooperation. • Reports out every 5 weeks. The 5 & 15 weeks are progress reports with slashes, D’s, F’s & U’s. The 10 & 20 weeks are with all letter grades, work habits, cooperation, absences, tardies, & comments. • All music classes have performance playing tests and quizzes for their homework assignments. All assignments listed on www.yourhomework.com . • Advisory gets many handouts, as well as portfolio assignments for grading. All assignments listed on www.yourhomework.com . • Percentage point grading 90% and up an A, 80 to 89% a B, 70 to 79% a C, 60 to 69% a D, and 59% and below a F.
Parent Conferences • Parent Conference Night is Thursday, November 19th from 6:00 to 8:00pm. • If you would like an appointment before that, please check the appropriate box on the sign in form and I will contact you. • Otherwise, if you need to reach me, you may call the school at (818) 700-2222 and leave a message for me at extension 2320, or e-mail me at gmarti1@lausd.net . • You can also contact the school counselors to make arrangements for a conference scheduled with all your child’s teachers at the same time, these are called “round table” or “Student Success Team” conferences.
