DUAL WINDING RELUCTANCE MACHINE WITH CAPACITOR • The previous configuration results in a high voltage on the field winding • Adding a capacitor on the field winding yields:
SATURATED RELUCTANCE MACHINE • Steady-State Machine Equations • Torque
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • In all study, choose Ld = 10 Lq • Compare between magnetically linear RM, magnetically linear RM with capacitor, and Dual Winding RM with capacitor • For Dual Winding RM, choose Ids1 and Iqs2 that produce maximum torque
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • Maximum torque occur when Ids1 = Iqs2 • Real Power: • Linear RM: • Dual Winding RM: • Reactive Power: • Linear RM: • Dual Winding RM:
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • Real Power
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • Reactive Power
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • VI - curve
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • Compare the performance of Magnetically linear RM, Saturated RM (with Idp = 3.5 A), and PM • For each machine, choose Ids such that torque is maximized for given 3|V||I| • For this study, choose Lld = 0.1 Lmd
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • Torque profile and Pout vs (3|V||I|)
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • Study the effect of saturation • Change from Lld = 0.1 Lmd to Lld = 0.05 Lmd
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON • Torque profile and Pout vs (3|V||I|)
CONCLUSION & FUTURE WORK • Studies to compare the performance of various types machines have been conducted • For the dual-winding RM, addition of capacitor seem to improve the performance of the machine compared to magnetically linear RM • In general, saturated RM have a better performance than a magnetically linear RM; however, the amount of saturation needs to be carefully selected • Need to include the variation of the air gap length with respect to rotor position
