LUMPUR OH LUMPUR • SYNOPSIS: This case is focusing on the inefficient mitigation measures (ESCP for EIA) of the Fasa Cahaya construction site. It all started with the mud flood problem faced by a few villagers in Kampung Janda, Negeri Sembilan, after 2 hours of extreme localised rainfall. This flood has caused many losses to the villagers and they were asking for compensation from the developer of Bandar EMAS Project. The failure in the negotiation between the villagers and the developer has pressured the villagers to report the scenario to a sensational TV program ‘Dedahan Sensasi’. After the reveal of the mud flood issue in Kampung Janda, the developer faced challenges in solving the compensation issues and complying to the EIA approval terms. On the other hand JPASNS faced challenges in helping the developer and EIA consultant to solve their problems and to clear all the negative perception on JPASNS’s enforcement as being reported by ‘Dedahan Sensasi’.
