  1. Welcome To India Brand Equity Foundation A Leading Plastic Manufacturers and Exporters in India

  2. An Overview of Plastic Industry in India By India Brand Equity Foundation

  3. When Was Plastic Introduced In India? India started producing phenolics in 1947, but it took a decade to make the first thermoplastics. And plastic production in India reached 170 lack tons in 2018-19. According to India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the country had around 4000 converting units in 2018-19, and the industry size was pegged at Rs. 5.1 lack crore. Over the years, the production of plastic has substantially increased.

  4. How Is Plastic Made? A plastic production plant uses crude oil, natural gas, coal, cellulose, and salt to make plastic. Earlier, the raw material was extracted from the earth, but most raw materials were sourced from third countries.  • The crude oil is distilled in refineries to separate the lighter components like naphtha • The lighter olefin gasses are transformed into a variety of polymers • Polymers are small pallets of plastic that manufacturers use • Pallets are melted, molded, and remolded into plastic products

  5. What Is The Structure Of The Plastic Industry In India? Plastic manufacturers in India employ millions of workers. There are thousands of units, and according to IBEF most of the processing units are small and medium enterprises.  • The plastic industry employs over 40 lack workers • It comprises over 30,000 processing units • Approximately 85-90% of these units are small and medium enterprises • The government policy documents highlight the fragmented nature of the industry

  6. What Is The Size Of The Plastic Industry In India? According to plastic exporters, the demand for country-made products is growing overseas. The compounded growth rate of the industry during 2010-19 was 3.5% and is expected to reach a CAGR of 3.4% by 2028. • India exported plastic raw materials worth USD 3.6 million in FY21 • The market size of the industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8-10% by 2025 • The Indian Chemicals and Petrochemical Industry expects investment worth Rs. 8,00,000 crore by 2025

  7. What Are The Categories Of Plastic Production? Plastic exports are categorized into two broad groups - Thermoset plastics and Thermoplastics. Thermoset plastics have the property of hardening when cooled. But thermoplastics are used for commodity and engineering products.  • Thermoset plastics aren’t used for everyday products • Commodity plastic is used in everyday products • In 2018, the per capita consumption of plastic in the country was 13.6 kg

  8. How Is Government Helping The Plastic Industry? The government formed the Plastic Export Promotion Council in 1995, a non-profit organization to help the industry find new markets and get export orders. The organization has a dedicated secretariat and staff to fulfill its responsibilities. • The organization was established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry • Its prime objective is to present as a reliable supplier of high-quality products • It represents all plastic manufacturers and exports in the world
