BCAA stands for Branched-Chain Amino Acids. They are a group of three essential amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine.   1. BCAA – We Need It or Not By IC Fitness Club – An Institute of Fitness Science

  2. Overview • BCAA Supplement is widely used in the Supplements market for the muscle growth assistance. • BCAA is consisted of three essential Amino Acids, that are Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine. • That are present in 2:1:1 ratios.

  3. Leucine • Leucine is one essential amino acid out of 9 essential amino acid. • In 2:1:1, Leucine is 2g whereas valine and iso-valine is 1g each. • Leucine is known for triggering the Muscle Protein Synthesis, MPS. • 2g to 3g of leucine is sufficient for triggering MPS. • Additional Leucine will not serve you any extra benefits.

  4. Amino Acid Profile • Amino Acids are primary branch of Protein. • There are total 20 Amino Acids in Protein, 9 essential, 9 non-essential and 2 conditionally essential. • If all Amino Acids are present in the food, protein will be stated as complete protein otherwise it will be stated as incomplete protein. • There are total 9 essential amino acids, methionine, threonine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, tryptophan, histidine, lysine, phenylalanine.

BCAA need • BCAA alone cannot be responsible for muscle growth and body functions. • These 9 essential amino acids are rich in all animal foods, and dairy products such as eggs, meat, milk, curd and protein supplements. • Therefore, If you are consuming and hitting your protein intake through diet, BCAA will not serve you any extra benefits.

  7. Conclusion • BCAA are being sold with the Profit motive, otherwise BCAA has no special Function in the body. If you are consuming complete protein, all amino acids which are present in BCAA, can be supplied to body in sufficient amount through ingesting complete protein. • Complete Protein sources are, Eggs, Chicken, Mutton, Fish, Milk, Curd, Paneer, Yogurt etc.
