Daniel chapter 3 1. In what ways does Nebuchadnezzar in chapter 3 show contempt for the vision of the image he had in chapter 2? • He makes the whole image of gold, not just the head. (Which represent him) • He commands that his people bow down and worship it. • He throws Daniel’s friends into the fiery furnace.
Daniel chapter 3 2. The dimensions of the image are 60 cubits high and 6 cubits wide. Are these the proportions of a man? • No, for that height it should be 2.5 to 3 cubits wide. So why say six cubits wide? • Numbers in scripture have a spiritual meaning. • It is thought this image included a pedestal upon which it stood. This is confirmed by Diodorus in his account of Xerxes which mentions an image of gold, 40 feet high taken from the temple of Belus.

What is the symbolic significance of the number six in Scripture? • Six is the number of man and this image was man’s vision but how do we support six is the number of man? • Man was created on the 6th day. • The height of Goliath was six cubits, six pieces of armour are mentioned and his spear weighed six shekel. (see 1 Sam. 17:4-7) • The man of sin was 666 in Rev. 13:18. • In 1KI 10:14, 666 was the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year. • Six is the number of foods remembered from Egypt in NUM 11:5 and the number of items given to the harlot in Hos. 2:5. • There were six cities of refuge for man.

If so does it have application today? • Six musical instruments so this was man’s music but this is repeated 3 times for 3 in symbol is what? • Earthly perfection -- 3rd day earth came up out of the water, 3 days Jonah in the whale and Jesus in the heart of the earth. • Why is this important to be able to show today? • Trinitarians say 3 symbolizes godly perfection. • Today's application is to be careful for much of today’s music is earthy!
Daniel chapter 3 5. What is meant by the answer in verse 16, "we are not careful to answer thee in this matter”? • They told the king in as circumspect a manner as possible that their minds were made up, that a second chance wouldn't cause them to change nor would they bow down to the image.
