There are 5 exceptions to the closed syllable rule • ild wild • ind bind “i” Whenever these letters are in a closed syllable word the vowel says it’s name!! “i”
“O” • old cold Whenever these letters are in a closed syllable word the vowel says it’s name!! ost post “O”

v – e rule • Whenever there is a vowel, then a consonant, then an e at the end of a syllable, the e is silent and the vowel says it’s name. (the long sound) • plate globe prize
