MM mechanical prototype Work progress at CERN
CERN mechanical prototype • Full-wedge small sector quadruplet • Eta and stereo doublets • Drift gap – 5 mm • Total thickness ~80 mm • Support frame (spacer) • 10 interconnection points MMMM, Würzburg, 30-31 January 2014
OKOUME block board panels • Panel thickness – 22 mm • Density – 510 kg/m³ • Full-wedge size panels • 22 mm + 6 mm spacers • Total thickness – 72 mm • Total weight – ~110 kg
Spacer frame • The spacer frame has been designed and simulated (G. Spigo & M. Ciapetti) • Frame has been produced (Naples, CERN) • From other side of the spacer will be added the dummy wedge with equal thickness and weight – 2 OUOUME block board panels (22 mm) and 28 mm spacers– 72mm in total • To be assembled and tested with prototype in the different orientation for the mechanical deformation, etc…
Panel sag measurements (1) • To measure the sag of the panels, they were places on two ends • The measurements were done for each panel separately with and without additional weight (2.7 kg) and for the combination of 2, 3, 4 and 5 panels assembled together • Same measurements were done also for 22 mm thick OKOUME block board panels
Measurement plans The possible measurements on the mechanical prototype we’re planning to do at BB5 area, where the bridge crane is available. On the spacer frame will be mounted the hooks. Prototype could be lifted up by the crane and rotated under the different angles Hooks MMMM, Würzburg, 30-31 January 2014
