  1. QUADRILATERALS

  2. A quadrilateral is a polygon with FOUR sides. Q R 2 It is named by its VERTICES in a clockwise position. 1 3 4 S P *The figure above is named PQRS, QRSP, RSPQ, or SPQR . REMEMBER :The order of the vertices is important !

  3. TERMS : B A In quadrilateral ABCD, the vertices are A, B, C and D. Vertices A and B, B and C, C and D, D and A are consecutive vertices. C D Vertices A and C, B and D, are opposite vertices.

  4. Two sides with a common vertex, like AB and BC, are consecutive sides. A B AB, and DC, AD and BC, on the other hand are opposite sides. D C

  5. ` Two angles with a common side, like <A and <D, are consecutive angles. A B <A and <C, <B and <D, on the other hand are opposite angles. D C

  6. B A C Segments joining opposite vertices like AC and BD are called diagonals of the quadrilateral. D

  7. KINDS of QUADRILATERALS : M S R O N P T NONCONVEX Q CONVEX Diagonals of quadrilateral do not intersect Diagonals of quadrilateral intersect.

  8. TYPES of QUADRILATERALS : Quadrilateral Trapezoid Parallelogram Rhombus Rectangle Square

  9. TRAPEZOID base A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly a pair of parallel sides. leg leg base angles *If the legs are congruent , trapezoid is an isosceles. base *If a quadrilateral has no parallel sides, it is called a trapezium.

  10. PARALLELOGRAM A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of congruent and parallel sides.

  11. RECTANGLE A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles.

  12. RHOMBUS A rhombus is a parallelogram with four congruent sides.

  13. SQUARE A square is a parallelogram with four congruent sides and four congruent angles.

  14. REMEMBER !  Parallelogram sometimes sometimes always always Rhombus Rectangle always always sometimes Square sometimes
