  3. Criteria • Observership is minimum 4 weeks • Must adhere to all UGME and Queen's University International Centre policies • Observership criteria document • Can go with organization or set-up own placement • Attend PDT and post-arrival sessions • Certificate

  4. Questions to ask yourself... • What kind of traveller are you? Experienced? • Where do you want to live? • Urban or rural • Homestay or independently • What kind of experience do you want? • Clinical? Hospital or busy clinic • Public health? Outreach and community healthcare • Interprofessional experience • Speciality or general? • Rural medicine versus hospital in different healthcare system

Questions to ask yourself... • Language? • Structured project and timeframe? • What are your goals and expectations? • Medically - clinical practice or social/cultural experience • Personally - what do you want to have accomplished by the end of the summer? • Research? • Why are you going? To help? To learn?

  6. More questions... • Spend time reflecting on your expectations • What are your motivations? • This trip is for you, you will not save the world, but you will learn and grow as a person • "Sometimes good intentions aren't enough"

Pre-departure Checklist • Application due: February 17th, 2012 • One copy by email and one dropped off at the OGH • GH Bursary: last Friday in February (not administered by the OGH) • Pre-departure Training: April 2012 • Individual interviews: April 2012 • OCASP: May 1, 2012 (if placement is in June, OCASP us due April 1, 2012) - through Queen’s University International Centre • Observership Approval form (online, UGME): 6 weeks before departure

  9. Post-arrival Checklist • Observership Attendance form: September 15, 2012 (online, UGME) • OCASP incidence form: 30 days post-arrival • Post-arrival debrief session • Placement Information Form
