  3. Safe learning environment for the kids • A place where kids are excited about learning • Clear and consistent expectations for student behavior • Provide meaningful opportunities for parental involvement in our students’ education As a school, we will build strong relationships with our students by getting to know them and respect them as individuals and learners. Students learn that the staff cares about them. I believe each child is a precious commodity entrusted in our care. I believe children need a warm, loving environment in which to learn. I believe no one learns the same way. I believe each child can learn with modifications to meet their individual needs. I believe in building memories. It is our commitment to make your child’s experience at Pleasant a positive and successful step towards the journey to becoming a well-educated and responsible citizen. Pleasant Elementary, an Excellent Place to Learn and Grow!

  4. Third Grade Guarantee Ohio's Third Grade Guarantee ensures that every struggling reader gets the support he or she needs to be able to learn and achieve. ODE’s website www.education.ohio.gov How it Works • In kindergarten through grade three, schools will evaluate all children to determine if they are reading as well as they should be. A diagnostic test is given by September 30th (STAR). If a child appears to be falling behind in reading, we will immediately start a reading improvement plan. • Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan - This plan will address each student's unique reading problems. We will monitor the plan to make sure the student's reading is improving. • We will work closely with parents to help create a remedy and for parents to be able to support the plan. Advancing to Fourth Grade • Except for those with special circumstances, students must meet a minimum score on the state reading test to move on to the fourth grade.  In 2013-2014, the minimum score for advancement was 392. This year the score will be 394 and must be attained either in the Fall or Spring administration of the Ohio Achievement Assessment (state reading test). Pleasant’s third graders attained 88.8% passage!

  5. STAR Assessments STAR Reading and Math (on-line assessments) Reading – assessment of reading comprehension and skills to help monitor your child’s growing literacy skills Math – assessment of math achievement that will help develop math skills **Second Grade Change – Students have to read the test on their own. In Kindergarten and First Grade, test is read to them.

  6. Project MORE MORE = Mentoring in Ohio for reading excellence • Project MORE is a Scientifically-Based Reading Research Program that follows the “high expectations for all” standard. • Project MORE can provide intensive intervention for students at risk for reading failure, in order to promote increased achievement and outcomes. Our students are seen at least 4 days per week for 30 minutes, 1:1 instruction Our mentor base consists of aides, grandparents, community members, parents, retired teachers, and high school students. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FROM 8:00 – 8:30 8:30 – 9:00 2:30 – 3:00 3:00 – 3:30 2-4 times/week. THANK YOU!!

  7. This is our third year we are enthusiastically continuing our character building development program called Bucket Filling. During the school year we are encouraging, reminding and recognizing everyone’s efforts to be bucket fillers at home, at school, and everywhere we go. This program is simple and effective. Bucket filling creates positive energy in schools that is contagious. It reduces negativity and increases kindness, compassion and resiliency. At Pleasant Elementary we are here to help every child reach their maximum potential. Children learn best when they feel “connected” and understand that their teachers, other school staff, and their classmates genuinely care about them. When they feel safe and valued, their buckets are filled and their mental and emotional needs are met. Children with full buckets receive a huge boost in their ability to learn and absorb information. Be A Bucket Fillerwww.bucketfillers101.com Be a Bucket Filler not a Bucket Dipper!

  8. At Pleasant Elementary we have a Zero Tolerance for Bullying. Every child has the right to an education and; every child has the right to be safe. • Our school will be free from violence • Our school will be a nurturing, caring and respectful environment • There will be NO (Bucket Dipping) such as: • Giving nasty looks or making rude gestures • Calling names • Being rude and impolite to each other or adult personnel • Spreading stories and rumors • Teasing • Keeping someone out of a group • Acting in an unpleasant way near someone Bullying District Policy located on NCS website
