  2. 屈原 Qu Yuan (340 BCE – 278 BCE) • 屈原 是一個中國有名的詩人. • Qu Yuan was a famous poet. • 戰國時代的時候, 他擔任楚王的顧問 • He was an official of the King of Chu during the Warring States Period. • 楚王的第二兒子要結盟秦國,但是屈原覺得不好 • King of Chu’s second son wanted to make an alliance with the powerful Qin Province, but QuYuan thought it was a bad idea.

  3. 有人跟楚王說屈原說謊, 所以楚王不相信屈原所說的話. 因此屈原認為楚王對他失去信心. • But someone told the King that Quyuan was telling a lie, and the king lost confidence in him.

  4. 秦國佔領楚國後屈原很失望, 他傷心後就投河自殺When the Qin Province had taken over Chu Province and rest of China he was so sad he committed suicide by drowning. • 他們用船去找他的屍體. • Used a boat to try to search for his body. • 丟粽子給魚, 不要魚吃屈原的屍體. • Threw in zongzi in order for the fish to not eat Qu yuan’s body

  5. 粽子 Rice Dumplings • 有很多種粽子. • Many types of Rice Dumplings • 中國北方: 飯和棗 • Northern China: Rice mixed with dates • 廣州:豬肉, 火腿，栗子 • Guangzou: pork, ham, chestnut

  6. 米包在竹葉裡 • Wrap glutinous rice and other things of your choice in bamboo leaf. • 粽子要拿去蒸熟 • Finished wrapping, you must then steam the zongzi.

  7. 龍舟 Dragon Boat Racing • 龍船很長和很多人要槳. Boat is long and many people need to paddle. • 人們相信龍是水裡統治的好動物People believe the dragon is good omen and the ruler or the river. • 站在前面的人是搜索屈原 Person at the front of boat is “searching” for Quyuan. • 打鼓的人是辟邪的作用 • Person who is beating the drums is scaring away any evil creatures.

  8. Conclusion • 端午節時候人會去看龍船比賽和吃粽子. 以前, 人們想端午節是不好的因為夏天時候有很多疾病 所以他們 用端午節獲得騎邪惡的東西. 現在端午節還有在. 可是不是這是中國人. 有很多人喜歡去看龍船比賽, 有些人也是有比賽. 人現在可以經驗不同的文化. People go out and celebrate Dragon Boat Festival by watching races and eating zongzi. Before, people would think this festival was bad because of summer heat bringing diseases. People would use this festival to ride of spirits too. People now are still celebrating this festival. Not only is it Chinese people, but otherss as well. They come an observe races, some even participate in them. Now, people are able to experience different culture from around the world.
