Bully Prevention Program • Olweus Program • Awareness ~ what is bullying? • Class Meetings • PAWS Program • Bully Prevention Rules: • We will not bully others. • We will help students who are bullied. • We will include students who are left out. • If we know someone is being bullied, we will tell an adult.
PAWS Program • Component of our Bully Prevention Program • Monthly themes (respect, tolerance, courage, etc) • Students are awarded “paws” when they demonstrate an act that reflects the monthly theme. • Paws are then posted on a display for all to see. • At end of each month, one student who earned a paw from each grade level is randomly selected to receive a reward

Volunteer Policy • Volunteer Clearances include: • PA Clearances (Child Abuse & Criminal) are FREE to parents. • FBI Clearance (fingerprints) will cost $27.00 • If you’ve been a resident in PA for 10 or more years, you can sign an affidavit in lieu of the fingerprinting. • Clearances are good for 5 years from the date you received them. • Raptor • All volunteers and visitors must scan their drivers’ license in FES office through Raptor • Scanned info is entered into an NASD database • Raptor runs a check with national sex offender database
Volunteer Opportunities • We welcome parent volunteers (especially in KDG!) • A survey link will be emailed to you on which you can identify the area(s) in which you would like to volunteer (ex. Classroom, Library, Art, etc.)
Food in Classrooms • Due to severe (and at times, life threatening) allergies, no food is permitted in classrooms. • Food is only permitted in Cafeteria, Staff Lounge, Nursing Office, and Office area
Drop-Off and Pick-Up • If dropping off or picking up at normal arrival/dismissal times: • This is facilitated in the rear of the building in the loop near Kindergarten entrance. • For safety purposes, students may only load/unload when vehicles are along the red curb. • Students should exit vehicles from the passenger side. • Please do NOT drop students off in the front lot or along the side lot. • Please obey speed limit (5mph). • Please be mindful of traffic behind you. • We encourage parents to practice/review this process with your child (example: exiting and entering car; fastening seatbelts; opening/closing door).
Attendance • 10 and 18 day absence letters • New state laws • After three (3) unexcused absences: • Letter sent to parents • ESAP referral • Truancy plan must be put in place • After six (6) unexcused absences: • Letter sent to parents • ESAP referral • Truancy plan must be put in place • Referral to community-based attendance program and/or CYF • Tardies • No disciplinary consequence in elementary, but… • Students receive detention in Middle School after multiple tardies.
MTSS • Multi-Tiered System of Support • An evidence based model of instruction that uses data to provide varying levels of instruction to students based on need. • Focus of Year 1 of implementation: • Universal Screener (aimswebPlus) • Administered to ALL students • Administered 3 times per year • Differentiation of instruction to meet ALL students’ learning needs
Math Placement • M4 & M3 Math Classes • Follow same NASD curriculum • Utilize same program (GoMath!) • Differentiation (process, product, assessment) • Enrichment & remediation provided • Placement is flexible • Data is collected annually to develop groups • All math classes will follow same NASD curriculum • Math acceleration is available to 4th and 5th grade students that meet the required criteria
Chorus (Grades 4 and 5) • Optional for all 4th and 5th grade students • Information was emailed to families on August 28 • Permission slips needs to be submitted electronically • Those NOT electing to participate in Chorus will be engaged in supplemental teacher-directed activities; they do NOT get a study hall or extra recess.
